Had the very best time down in San Diego for a few days. Among highlights is the Japanese garden in Balboa Park along with generally strolling around various parts of the park we'd missed previous visits. The desert garden in particular had some wacky cacti and trees. Great dinners at Herb & Wood, Mabel's Gone Fishing and Ironside. Made a trip to Pop Pops Paleta for a second ice cream bar in two days.... Mmmmm. Tons of walking, earned our treats!!

A Rorschach test in cabbage form. Or maybe a mood ring? Either way, when I halved this cabbage and saw the cross-section, first thing that came to mind was "The Scream". Glancing at the photo later, I instead saw the core looking like a path leading off on some adventure through a forest of purple. I much prefer that interpretation. Better mood that day, I guess.

Finally trying this treat I picked up while in Vancouver. I'm not usually a big candy person, but this leapt out at me while I was scanning the snack aisle nearby. Egad, this is good. I'm just going to pretend like it will require a return trip to Canada to get another one. I don't want to know they're easier to find than that. Indulgent.

Dinner a couple of nights ago, finally got to dig into some Dungeness!! An easy, delicious, wildly aromatic preparation roasting the crab with fresh rosemary, lemon, garlic and chile flakes.
